About Bridging the Gap
What Bridging the Gap Is
- A short-term AA service that helps alcoholics leaving treatment or correctional facilities make their first contact with AA in their community.
- A recovered AA member accompanies a newcomer to early meetings, introduces them to others, and helps them feel welcome.
- Part of our Twelfth Step work — carrying the message to the alcoholic who still suffers.
What Bridging the Gap Is Not
- Not a rideshare or transportation service.
- Not sponsorship, counseling, or long-term mentorship.
- Not affiliated with any treatment provider or institution.
- Not for profit or promotion — it’s purely AA service.
Why It Matters
Meeting an AA member within days of release greatly increases a newcomer’s chance of finding the solution and staying connected to the fellowship. Bridging the Gap ensures no one has to walk through that door alone.
